Recently, the Boneyard has looked like an Olympic construction project. A whole Tonka Toy collection was used to build the latest features, centrepieces for the highlight of the Crankworx Freeride Mountain Bike Festival: the invitation only Slopestyle Expression Session. The features are so fresh, so innovative that at first glance, (maybe even second or third), it is hard to tell how anyone could ride a bike on these things.
Take the Tower of Power, a 15' high teeter that looks more like a wooden oil rig. Get this: Slopestyle competitors will gap both on and off this feature. Lower down the track, the world’s biggest (let us know if you see a bigger one) wooden mountain bike quarter pipe has been installed. 20' long by 12' high, the QP will need its own address. One can only imagine what some of the world's best riders will do on this toy.
What, not enough? Add a 25' road gap, two huge wall rides, a multi-directional ladder bridge, a 15' tree-top drop, the split-level camo step-up box, rails, grinds and numerous super-sized dirt jumps and you have the perfect arena for the world's best to showcase their talent and ingenuity. The event will set the standard for many more to come. Qualifying runs on Friday, July 23. The main event starts Saturday, July 24th at 6pm. For more information, go to crankworx.com
